“Nurturing a Global Vision of Compassion through Touch”
The purpose of the ShareCare workshop is to demonstrate that every human being, and probably every living creature, possesses a natural ability for healing which can be directed to others as well as used internally for self-healing. Modern medical, scientific, and technological advances have made significant contributions toward the control and/or defeat of disease. Little has been done toward helath enhancement and the recognition of each individual’s responsibility in health and disease.
It is the belief of The Upledger Insititute that much of the violence and anger manifested in today’s society is due to a generalized sense of frustration and helplessnes. This sense of helpless frustration is present in many aspect of life. It is present not only in health, but also in economic status, social staus, exposure to environmental pollutants and toxins, regulation of war and violent activities, nuclear development, politics, and administration of justice, ad infinitum.
This one-day ShareCare workshop does not presume to address a majority of these areas. We will, however, make a pathway in the health, comfort, and functional improvement of the total being. We will begin the process of empowerment by showing participants that each person has the latent, if not active, ability to heal themselves and others. It has been shown that as the sense of self-worth is increased, anger and frustration is reduced. Healthcare workers who have taken the time to observe this phenomenon will attest to it.
Research done by Patricia (Pat) Norris, Ph.D., of the Menninger Foundation presents an excellent example of the positive effects which can be achieved by empowerment. Pat went into the federal penitentiary of Leavenworth, Kansas as a reserach psychologist. She quickly and without frills taught skin temperature control to a number of male prisoners. Her technique was simply to scotch tape a cheap thermometer to the prisoner’s finger. She then made relaxing suggestions to the prisoner. As the prisoner relaxed, he saw his temperature go up. This told the subject prisoner directly that he was able to make his own skin temperature rise.
This is empowerment. He had never dreamed that he could control any of his own physiological functions. The results were a decrease in headaches, angry and violent behaviour, and a willingness to cooperate and learn more about how to control himself.
During the one-day workshop, we will demonstrate the effects of and teach by individual participation the presence of the “Inner Physician,” specific therapeutic effect of the V-spread technique, and the generalized positive systemic effect of the CV-4 technique. As the participants see what they can do, they are empowered in the areas of health, healing, and bodily funcitons. With power comes responsibility, and with resonsibility comes self-respect.
The purpose of the workshop, therefore, is to present a few simple techniques which will ultimately elevate self-respect, healing and love through touch.
Details will be here as classes are planned.
